Hair Loss Treatment in Bengaluru (Bangalore)
Not all hair loss is the same, and not all of it needs surgery. Before considering a transplant it is worth understanding what is actually causing your hair loss, because the answer changes what will help.
Common causes of hair loss
- Male and female pattern hair loss, which is genetic and progressive.
- Telogen effluvium, a temporary shedding usually triggered by illness, stress, surgery or childbirth.
- Nutritional deficiencies.
- Thyroid and other hormonal conditions.
- Alopecia areata, an autoimmune condition causing patchy loss.
- Traction alopecia, caused by sustained pulling from hairstyles.
- Scarring from injury, burns or previous surgery.
Several of these are reversible. Some are not appropriate for surgery at all, at least until the underlying condition is stable.
How hair loss is diagnosed
Diagnosis usually involves examination of the scalp and the pattern of loss, a discussion of your history including when it began and how it has progressed, and where relevant, investigation to identify or exclude medical causes.
Assessment covers examination of the scalp and the pattern of loss, a discussion of your history including when it began and how it has progressed, and where relevant, investigation to identify or exclude medical causes. Medicine department clearance is required before any procedure.
Where a medical cause is suspected, blood tests are commonly used, typically looking at thyroid function, iron stores and hormonal factors. Which tests apply is decided by your doctor after examining you.
Non surgical options
Where hair loss is caught early, is driven by a treatable cause, or is not yet extensive enough for surgery, non surgical treatment is often the right first step. Broadly, the options fall into four groups.
- Treating the underlying cause. Where testing identifies a thyroid, nutritional or hormonal factor, correcting it is the priority, because hair often improves once the cause is addressed.
- Prescribed medical treatment. Topical and oral treatments are available for pattern hair loss. Which one is appropriate, at what strength and for how long, is a prescribing decision your doctor makes after assessing you. These treatments work while they are continued.
- In-clinic treatments. PRP and GFC are prepared from your own blood and injected across the affected area to support existing follicles. Both are offered at our Bangalore clinic. Neither creates hair where the follicle has gone.
- Supportive measures. Correcting nutritional gaps, reducing traction from hairstyling, and managing scalp conditions all support whatever else is being done.
None of these restores hair in an area where the follicles are no longer present. That is the point at which a transplant becomes the question.
When surgery is considered
A transplant becomes appropriate when hair loss is due to a cause that surgery can address, the loss has stabilised or is being managed, the donor area can supply what the plan requires, and expectations match what the donor area can deliver.
Where those conditions are not met, our doctors will say so.
What a consultation covers
Examination, assessment of the cause and stage of your loss, discussion of the options that apply to your case, and, if a transplant is appropriate, what a realistic result would look like.
Questions worth bringing
- What is causing my hair loss?
- Is it likely to continue, and how quickly?
- Are there non surgical options I should try first?
- Am I a candidate for a transplant, and if not, why not?
- What would a realistic result look like for me?
