Rooted For Life: Why Success Needs Struggle - Filmmaking & Life Lessons from Bollywood Director Anees Bazmee

We can easily imagine you scrolling through your feed and coming across a video from a hair transplant clinic. You’re expecting a dry, clinical lecture on follicular units, graft counts, and “before-and-after” photos. You’re expecting us to tell you that Eugenix is the global gold standard of hair restoration (which we are) and that our science is infallible (it is).

But if you thought Eugenix was just another sterile white-coat operation, you’ve clearly never seen Dr. Pradeep Sethi break into a song routine in the course of a consultation. Not to mention the famous office harmonium.

We’re trying to write a “high-quality article” about our latest podcast with the legendary Anees Bazmee, but honestly? We just want to tell you to stop reading this and go watch the video. Because while the Eugenix writing team loves their job, we can’t quite capture the exact moment Anees Bhai explains how a donkey standing on a horse became the most iconic painting in Indian cinema.

You need to see the sparkle in his eyes for that.

Imagine one of the biggest directors in Bollywood sitting at the Eugenix Global Facility. If you’ve been living under a rock the whole time, Anees made Welcome, No Entry, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. Now imagine this person talking to a surgeon who is equally obsessed with his work.

This particular podcast gave us a whole new side to the great Anees Bazmee. One notices that he isn’t just a filmmaker; he’s a survivor. For instance, imagine moving houses 30 times as a kid because his family couldn’t afford the rent hikes. Most people would call that a tragedy. Anees calls it “market research.” He spent his childhood absorbing the wit, the grit, and the slang of Mumbai’s streets, which is exactly how we got Nana Patekar screaming about potatoes and onions (Aloo le lo, Kaanda le lo!) in Welcome.

There’s a beautiful moment in the talk where he explains that filmmaking is basically the “art of compromise.” Like the time Salman Khan showed up to the set of Ready with a massive eye infection. The set was costing a fortune, the clock was ticking, and the leading man couldn’t open his eye.

Did Anees panic? No. He just ordered 30 pairs of sunglasses for the entire cast and wrote a line of dialogue that made the whole thing look intentional. That’s the kind of “professionalism” we vibe with at Eugenix. It’s not about things going perfectly; it’s about having the creative genius to make the “fix” look like it was the plan all along.

We’re a bit self-aware here. We know that getting a hair transplant can be nerve-wracking. But at Eugenix, the atmosphere of artistry is hard to miss.

Anees Bhai actually admitted he was terrified of the procedure. He even told Boney Kapoor, “You go first. If you look good, I’ll think about it.” Only after seeing Boney Sir’s transformation did he decide to join the club.

The most heartwarming part of the interview? Anees talking about how he felt during his surgery. He expected pain and clinical coldness. Instead, he got Dr. Sethi singing 90s hits and a team that treated him like a long-lost brother.

“You aren’t just a doctor; you are an artist,” he told Dr. Sethi.

And he’s right. Designing a hairline is a lot like writing a script. If you make it too perfect, it looks fake. If you don’t give it “character,” it doesn’t move the audience. We’re obsessive about the technical details (we are the best in the business, after all, humble brag intended), but we do it with a sense of humor that keeps the room alive.

We could spend another 500 words telling you about his philosophy on love, his hand-written Urdu scripts, or his “One Life” theory, but we’d be doing you a disservice. This isn’t just a “hair transplant video.” It’s a 1-hour plus therapy session for anyone who has ever struggled, anyone who loves cinema, and anyone who needs to be reminded that life is too short to be conscious about your forehead.

Here is why you should click play:

  1. He explains the “Majnu Bhai” painting in a way that will make you never look at a donkey the same way again.
  2. Listen to him explain why his only regret in life was waiting so long to fix his hair. (Spoiler: It involves a lot of “why didn’t I do this sooner?” soul-searching).
  3. See a man who has made billions at the box office talk about his spot boys like they’re family.

We take our work incredibly seriously. We are world leaders in hair restoration for a reason. But we refuse to take ourselves too seriously. This is the essence behind out “Rooted for Life” podcast series. Anees Bazmee spent decades making India laugh. We spent two days making him look like he’s 35 again. It was a fair trade.

This is a podcast that feels like it’s over in fifteen minutes, which is the highest compliment you can pay anything. Watch it when you have a coffee. Watch it when you need to remember that the people who’ve done the most interesting things in life are usually just the ones who kept going when it got awkward.

The video is right up there. We’ll stop talking now.
